Reise Tools is a free platform of financial calculators and guides built specifically for freelancers, independent contractors, 1099 workers, and self-employed individuals. No ads. No paywalls. No upsells. Just the math.
Why this exists
Every financial calculator for freelancers is either buried in a tax software paywall, cluttered with ads, or built for W-2 employees with a “freelancer mode” tacked on as an afterthought. The self-employment tax calculation alone sends most people to a forum post from 2018.
Self-employed people don't have HR departments, employer 401(k) matches, or automatic tax withholding. Every financial decision — how much to set aside for quarterly taxes, whether to take the SEP-IRA or Solo 401(k), whether a client engagement is actually profitable after overhead — falls entirely on them.
These tools exist to close that gap. Every calculator on this platform is built for people who work for themselves, with the actual math they need, not a simplified version that assumes someone else handles the hard parts.

Most financial calculators are black boxes — you put a number in, a number comes out, and you have no idea if it's right. That's a problem when the output determines how much you owe the IRS. Transparent math builds confidence in the result and lets you verify every assumption.
Built with the community
The HBTax suite — reseller P&L, platform fee calculator, inventory tracker, and tax estimator — was built in close collaboration with Hayden and the HBTax community of eBay resellers and e-commerce sellers. That feedback loop — real users with real numbers pointing out where the math breaks — made the platform meaningfully better.

I'm a solo developer and the sole builder behind this platform. Every tool, every guide, every line of code is written by one person. That means the tools ship fast, stay opinionated, and never get watered down by committee.
I've experienced the self-employed tax confusion firsthand — quarterly estimated taxes, S-Corp elections, mileage tracking, home office calculations. Building these tools is partly selfish: I wanted them to exist, so I built them.
